Model Slightly Distorted after Sequence Import
« on: January 03, 2018, 10:43:38 AM »
I am switching to Xlights from LOR for the 2018 season. The import process is easy thanks to all of the tutorials out there. However I am having one problem. Upon playback in Xlights my 16 CCR tree is slightly off. For example strings 1,2,and 3 are in a straight line but 3,4, and 5 go up half way and then shift to the right then continue to the top. It appears to be a minor issue, but being an Xlight newby I've tried everything I know. Thanks for your patience. ::)

On the real lights or the preview?  If its the preview then make the panel larger.  Show us a picture of what you're seeing.

It's on the model preview. Not sure how to save an image of it to show. No right click save as. Stand by

It's like a portion of strings 3-16 need to be shifted to the left. Strings 1-3 are fine

I can't tell which effect you have placed.  If you're on Windows the "Snipping Tool" is an easy was to grab a slice of your screen.

I haven't used an effect. The screen grab is a frame of a completed sequence that I just imported from LOR. Its slightly distorted on model preview during playback in xlights. Not sure if my model is setup correctly. The node mapping in the tree model is right. Its hard for me to describe in writing i guess.

We'd need to see the model properties from the Layout page.  Right-click on the model and choose Node Layout and see if the nodes are numbered the same way you wired the tree.

OK node layout looks right. Node 1 bottom left ribbon to top then increments of 50 nodes each ribbon ending with node 800 on ribbon 16 top.

Gil not sure if this will help. I have attached 2 stills of the finger snap in the sequence. the first is from SS lights who I purchased the sequence from. The second is after import into xlights. I'm sure I did something wrong but not sure what.

Ok I don't see any effects on the xLights grid so what method of Import did you use?  I usually import the .sup file using Import -> Import Effects but it appears you may have data only like you imported the LMS file as a data layer?  There are at least 3 different ways to import the sequence so not sure which one you used.

Yes I imported as a data layer from the sequence settings. Which is preferred?

I just tried import effects and now I'm at a mapping section. Not sure what to do from here.

Alrighty then. Well Gil I think Ive got it. Ive been able to import the sequences I purchased from Holiday sequences and the ones I made. For some reason though the sequences I purchased from SS lights, Brian Bruderer, wont import. I get a xml parsing error. See pic below. Any ideas? BTW thanks for the help. You were spot on!!

I was able to fix the XML parsing errors in the SS Light .sup files from BrianB. Everything transferred perfectly. Thanks for your help.

Great.  I was worried maybe you had a newer version and he had broken the import on purpose.  We have a function that tries to correct all the XML errors in his files because there were many mal-formed XML tags.  I'd be curious to know what tag was bad because I thought we caught all the errors.

Below is the last few lines of code in the .sup file from BrianB's sequences. The code had extra content at the end. I merely deleted the 3 extra "(</SuperStarMetaFile>)" entries and left one there. Then it worked. A stroke of luck on my part I suppose. 8)
