Random crashes 2018.3 & 2018.4 both 64 bit
« on: January 31, 2018, 09:46:24 PM »
I have experienced numerous crashes today with both version of xlights. Crashes seem to happen when trying to select multiple elements within sequence. Cannot consistently repeat but action on failure seems consistent. Status on crash is program becomes non responsive and must be manually closed.

I am attaching the latest log file. I see the time stamp does not match my local time. Please advise if additional files would help.

Update:

Crashes still happening. Logs show nothing new. Can recreate fairly consistently. When attempting to highlight and select more that one effect in a sequence a few of the slide bars (color, cycle count or whatever effect is selected start darting back and forth and then I get the non-response hang. Have uninstalled xlights and reinstalled 64 bit version. Same issue.

Windows 10/home 64 bit
Checked Windows Event and security logs and only generic failure info recorded. Nothing specific or actionable.

I have installed OBS and will try to get a video going soon.

In the mean time, I have attached a file that captured something on the latest crash. I tried researching it but came up emp.

I am not getting any crash reports but my XL is "stopping" with the blue circle--I have to close out of XL when this occurs.   Only happens after I have played some of the sequence with timing tracks showing up in the sequencer.   Does not happen if I have just opened up XL and have not played any of the sound yet.   Also does not happen if I do not have timing tracks showing up in the sequencer panel.

Posted a short video--I was never able to select the effects at the bottom of the screen in this example--got the blue circle and had to close out of XL.   This is typical of what I am seeing across a few different sequences.

i'm running .5 on a W10 laptop.

Very similar issue to mine. Does your screen (at the top) say (Not Responding)? If you could check your event log under application, I would be curious to know what error is logged.

Thanks

I think I found the error log.  Here is an error that was logged one of the times xlights hung on my tonight.
Yes I am getting "not responding" at the top of the screen when it hangs.

Does the info below help at all?   This is not an area with which I am familiar at all....

The program xLights.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

I also cant reproduce the problem with .5 from yours. Your video is kind of short and so I just dont know if i missed something or the audio is important.

If I cant reproduce it I cant fix it.

Keith
I do not see the "hangs" when I select an effect without having previously played the music in the sequencer--regardless of whether the timing marks' vertical lines are displayed in the sequencer.
I also do not see the "hangs" when I select an effect without the timing marks' vertical lines displayed on the sequencer, even if I have previously played music in the sequencer.

I do see the "hangs" when the sequencer has timing marks' vertical lines displayed AND after having played music in the sequencer.   This combo (timing marks' vertical lines displayed & having played music) is when the hangs occur.

I'll do another video tonight with a little better narration--I'll make sure I show what "good" looks like (no hangs) and will do my best to clearly narrate a "hang".  I have found it tough to provide a good narration of the "hangs" because they kind of happen fast when you are trying to select an effect!!
