Channel Naming ??
« on: February 04, 2018, 02:09:36 AM »
Question??  When I laid out my "Layout" screen, and named the description of each model I assumed, apparently  incorrectly, that the name allocated by xLights to each model was used internally.    If that is not the case, can I go in and give each model a meaningful name to make each one easier to locate  ??

I have attached a screen grab of a typical model. As you will be aware the learning curve is still rather low on the horizontal axis.  :-(

You either are running an old version or you created a layout with an old version. Recent versions don’t do that with the names any more.

Yes, it would have been around 2017_20 to 30 or so, currently sitting on 2017_45 I think.

Yeah that "Name" field right there in the screenshot is an editable field.  Yes you need exclusive names and we force that.  When you create them in a row now it should go -1, -2, -3 I believe instead of always adding another -1.

Thanks Gill and Keith,  That will keep me occupied in my spare time while on holiday to go through and re-name all those channels so that they make sense  :-)  There are only 8 - 900 of them  :-)

Cheers,

Be careful. Renaming models causes issues when loading old sequences. You may not want to go that way.

Thanks for the comments Keith, at this stage, they are all the "current sequences", will/could that still cause me problems  ??

Yes. When you open them after you rename the models the models won’t exist so XLights will want you to map them. Unless you know which is which you will be totally lost.

Thanks Keith, best I leave everything "as is", it isn't really a problem for me, just looks "odd" on the layout screen  :-)  I certainly do not want to create any more hassles  :-)

Cheers,
