Backup program suggestions

Hi all

Ill start by saying I am on a mac.  I am looking for a program (if one exists) that will allow me to specify file extensions only, and back up to my dropbox folder.  I do not want it to look in subfolders, just the main one, and will create just one directory in the dropbox folder ie - not create a new one based on time and date etc.  What I want to do is just copy .xml and other main files only from the show folder.

I have tried to do this by just typing in xml, but the search returns from finder also pick up all the xml files in the sub folders, including the main back up folder. 
Actually, is it possible to change the main backup folder to be outside the show directory (I know I can specify the folder for the alternate backup, but I do like the auto backup function).

I did see a post a while back about alternative backup programs, but have been unable to find it since.  I have tried easeus, but it makes a new folder in dropbox based on time and date of backup.

Any help appreciated.

I got confused reading that.  You want to know if there is a way to save to a different folder than the show folder and you know that feature is built into the program....so what's the problem?

The XL backup creates a new folder based on time and date for save.  I just want it to have 1 folder, and it copy over the top each time.  I dont want to be doing manual housekeeping and maintaining the folder.  I just want it to have 1 folder with the current copy of files - does that make sense?  Sorry, its hard to explain exactly what I need.

What happens if you backup to the same folder every day, then after a couple of weeks discover that you have been backing up a bad file for the last week, you have no way to go back and recover a good version of that file because you have now been backing up a bad file over good ones. Computers are not perfect and occasionally a glitch will occur and a file gets corrupted in the editing process. If you are not backing up on a time/date basis the likely hood of having a bad file occur increases.

If you are concerned about backup you should also be using an alternate destination such as a cloud drive or even an external drive as your backup location.

What is so hard about once in a while opening the backup folder, selecting a whole group of old folders and just deleting them? However I wouldn't delete anything newer than a month back just because of the reason stated above. Everybody needs to do house cleaning once in a while.

BTW you don't need to backup FSEQ files because they can always be recreated.

Do I know what you mean?  Yes.  Does it make sense?  No.  The way xLights is creating backups is better.

I have been going about this the wrong way. What I should have been asking about is a program that copies the files I need (rather then backup) to the folder. Mac has an inbuilt program called Automator which I can use. I can then store my xlights backup on one cloud, originals in another.
