Split an effect
« on: April 09, 2018, 09:20:27 PM »
Is there an easy way in xLights to slice a single long effect into two short ones?

Let’s say I have an effect 40 seconds long. If I want two 20 second versions, I have to grab an end, shrink it to 20 seconds, then copy and paste. It gets a little worse if I want unequal divisions.

Sorry if this is a newb gyration, but I can’t find anything in the manual or videos.

The way you described is easy! What's hard about that?

I'm lazy. Sure it's not actually hard to do click, slide, click, key press, click, key press, click, slide.  But I'd rather have the option of doing click, done!

If you have timing marks AC mode will split effects.  Just drop an effect in a middle cell then delete it, turn off AC mode and join them.  I don't see the need to provide a simple effect split feature it just shouldn't be something you need very often.
