LOR Mini Director
« on: May 22, 2018, 01:17:08 PM »
New to XLights, first year in hobby was last year and had the starter package from LOR.  Have been working on sequences and building a mega tree with XLights for this year.  Currently everything I own is LOR.  My question is when I get ready to put the hardware together, I want to run the show using the LOR Mini Director with SD card.  Do I need to get an E1.31 bridge?  Can I run everything as DMX through the LOR using XLights. Or do I need to get a new device to run the SD card?  I am lost on this topic.

I don't think you can do that.  I would imagine the LOR Mini Director wants LOR LMS files not the FSEQ files generated by xLights.  What files did you put on the SD card last year?

Yes it was LMS. Was hoping someone who has converted over from LOR had done this before.

I'd look into running free FPP software on a $35 Rasberry Pi or if you have a spare computer use our xSchedule software.

Had thought about buying a Rasberry to run off of.  Was thinking if all it is doing is pushing out data, maybe that is what the LOR mini director is doing also.  Have no idea how the inside of it works.  It may only work with LMS files. Which is why I asked the first question.  So, the next question is do I have to have something between the Rasberry and the LOR controller, such as the E1.31, or will telling the LOR controller to work as DMX take care of that?   Have seen video about a crossover cable for LOR.
As you can see I do not know how the hardware setup will work.  Have watched videos and read form post.  It seems to me that I will have to do something to make this work with the LOR controllers.  I do see as the years go on, I would no longer have any LOR.  That seems to be the trend from those I have read that convert from LOR.

I've been with xLights 4-5 years and I still have a few LOR AC controllers in my show.  Most people when they switch to pixels buy a pixel controller like a F16v3 that has built in DMX outputs that can drive a chain of LOR controllers.  Otherwise you need some type of E1.31 to DMX bridge card.  Or I believe you can plug in a LOR USB dongle directly to the Pi.

So, I think I have come up with a plan.  Get the Rasberry and start working on converting the house to all pixel. using Falcon controllers  This will take a few years as I am not rich.  Will take the LOR to my sons house and over the next few years he will have the LOR setup and I will be all pixel with XLights.  Think that is a good plan....  :)
