"Solo" ability
« on: June 24, 2018, 08:51:52 PM »
Before I put this in as a request, I'd like to find out if it is out there and I just haven't seen it.

On most sound boards (and recording software such as Audacity), we have the ability to "solo" a channel to listen to what is coming in on or has been recorded on that channel alone.

What I would like to see is similar.  The ability to click on an effect within the timeline, and see just that effect in the previewer.  Right now if you click on an effect, anything that is assigned during the time that effect is applied also plays.  It is quite cumbersome to isolate what an effect is doing, or not doing, when all the others are also playing - especially if you have effects stacked on the same display element.

If this is already out there, please let me know.  If not, though it is definately not a priority, I would like to see it added to the requests.

Thanks

You can see just the model playing at the time seperate to the house preview. I’m away from my laptop so can’t remember the exact window that it displays in. If you select the group then all the models show. If you select just the model then only the model shows.

Thanks for the reply.

Even in the model preview it shows all the effects that are in the same time frame that the chosen effect is set to.  With stacked (multiple levels) effects for a specific model, I want to be able to see just the effect I have chosen.

e.g.,
I have four layers assigned to my "cabinets" that are to doing four different things at the same time.  Two of them are very similar and telling them apart is a problem.  I want to see what one of the two similar effects is doing, but it is running with all the other effects.  For single color effects, I have been changing the colors of those two so I can see which is doing what.  Once I have it the way I want it, I change the colors back to the original.

It would be so good to just see what that chosen effect is doing.  Hence, letting it run "solo".

You can go back to xLights 3 since that's how it used to work.  I think the problem is the model preview is designed to just read the data from the render buffer so you get everything that's has rendered into those channels.  It would probably take an independent render buffer to render just the effect by itself.   Would probably mean reduction in memory available and performance to accomplish that.
