single strand effect
« on: July 06, 2018, 08:04:18 PM »
I have a new prop on in my display this year I working on. It my house outline, 33 pixels each side, across the top is 88 pixels for a total of 154. I was using the single strand effect on it. When I select in chase types' from middle"  with the layer setting on single strand, it does not expand from the middle of the top section, it expands from almost the far side of the top strand.  By the way it is wired as a single string, with data on the left side and power injection top right, between the top and right side.  What I am looking for is to expand from the top middle and go down the sides, now it expands from near right side goes down the right side, but the left side moves up not down as expected. I hope this made since, if not I will send the files which I think are the rgb effects and the network files. they are on the show computer now.  Thanks  Charlie J.

You might start by telling us what type of model you used for the prop and what render style you are using for the effect.

My model is just a house outline, with strips 33 node up, 88 nodes across, and 33 nodes down. It is wired as a single line from the left, with power injection.  It is modeled as 3 single lines. (When I first started to model this I had problems with the poly line.) I was using the single line effect rendered as a single line. So when I select in chase types from middle it is not from the middle as expected, it starts from almost the right end of the top horizonal line. I was retesting using the poly line and I think it will work but that means I will have to go into all my sequences and make changes if I change to poly line. I'm not sure if I want to do that yet. I have had issues with some effects on this model ( which I found a work around ) which if I change may eliminate those problems but I will not know unless I change to poly line. My dilemma is what to do now.

+1 to what Gil said.

I had some elements (triangle shapes) that I originally set up as single strand but was not getting the desired outcomes with the effects. I changed to poly line and glad that I did. You can use the substitute model option on the layout screen to swap the models then map to the new model when you open up the sequence next time. But as always make sure you have backups you can revert to if your not happy.

However (and someone jump in if I don’t get this right) but you can keep both models in your display (give them both the same start channel etc). You would then sequence them both based on what you want(I hope I got that correct).

Well I made the change to polyline. I did not lose anything. I created the polyline with the same name and address, and checked that it worked and deleted the old model and everything is still working. Of course I had to save all the changes in my sequences, but I did loose anything. Thanks for your help  Charlie J.
