Comments please on proposed Pixel layout
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:17:36 AM »
Apologies for another maybe newbie question, I am proposing replacing a number of strings of individually coloured LED's in my display with Pixels, namely the roof lines, barges, window frames, and uprights. These seem relatively simple, but I am unsure of how, to set out the data path for the 18 stripes on the roof, which will have varying numbers of Pixels on a number of them.  The 5 volt Pixels will be driven by ESP8266 Pixel sticks, and powering the setup I figure I have a pretty good handle on.

I have attached a screen grab of the layout page picture with the Pixel outlines roughly shown in Red, and the stripes  in Green.  I have indicated where I think the Data inputs should go in Orange, with the linking of the stripes drawn in Yellow, while the links between the other Pixel lines are in Pink.  As I alluded to earlier, the complication as far as I am concerned is that the stripes will need to be setup in a zig zag fashion, and will have varying numbers of Pixels on them due to the different lengths of the stripes alongside the roof left hand hip, and the central gully. This brings up the question of correctly addressing them.

The six "stripes" drawn "up in the air" in the center of the picture are placed there for convenience as they actually "live" on the left hand side of the roof that is currently empty. This has insufficient space to draw them on for the preview picture.  The same rationale is behind the 24 x 50 matrix that in real life is located lower down behind the leaping arches.

I trust I have not complicated the installation by words, hopefully the picture will make it clearer.  I have watched several times Gil's Video on a rapid simple setup/programming from scratch of xLights.  This setup is similar but sufficiently different for me to ask for guidance as I would rather I get it right first time.

If I can achieve this setup I will be removing about 150 Channels of Renard controlled strings and replacing them with Pixels, although I would like to still have "individual" control over the stripes if possible.

Any comments, guidance or observations will be gratefully accepted.

Terry
