Transparancy with Animated GIFS
« on: August 02, 2018, 07:17:27 AM »
I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is a limitation of the program but I cannot get an animated gif with a transparent background to work properly. The transparency part of the gif isn't working so I get  a black box around the image instead of letting the other effects behind to show through.

Sorry to not be more trusting but the last person that said this had a GIF that wasn't transparent...lol.  So please post the file.  It should work as long as you haven't changed the blend mode away from Normal.

It isn't about you not being trusting, I don't mind you asking for the GIF, we all make mistakes and I could have very easily made one. I included a screenshot showing that the Blend is set to Normal and how the transparency shows as a black box.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah it doesn't look right.  I'm not sure I've ever tried an animated GIF with a background.  Anyways I'm stuck at work for several hours.

No worries. Christmas is a little ways away, LOL and if it is a limitation of the program, then I will just work with it. It is an awesome program and I appreciate all that you do!

As a workaround try "1 Reveals 2" blending mode.

Checking "Transparent Black" worked for me. (version 2018-23)

I don't remember seeing that before.  Not sure why that was added because "1 Reveals 2" does the same thing and in fact my nickname for that blend mode is "Black is Transparent".

Yeah that was really recent like added in June.  Looks like you can set a level to how bright it will overwrite.  Seems like another parameter that should have been global.
