Help With Xlights
« on: August 09, 2018, 03:28:10 PM »
Hello, my name is Paul, I am a 72 year old retiree trying to learn Xlights with the help Sean’s tutorial videos.

I think I’m doing fairly well and hope to program some lights for Halloween and Xmas. In the meantime, I  am hosting a wedding in September (7th) at my house and was asked to have some form of a light display.

I decided that the best place was in the corner of my screen enclosure (Image and Xlights files attached).

After several question with Holidaycoro sales Reps, I purchased a AlphaPix (16) and several reels of LED’s and cords.

The reason I am asking for help is that this forum seems to enjoy teaching and helping newcomers.

So, I am hoping that maybe someone can review my process and offer any suggestions. You can even correct my files if you like. Technology is moving a bit too fast and I’m afraid I’m a little behind.

I have several sequences I completed (wedding songs etc.) that seem OK but the StarWars Funk seems to be somewhat challenging (The Wedding couple are big StarWars fans from Ireland). I believe that any suggestions anyone may have will help me with my other sequences.

I thank you in advance for everyone's help.

Hi Paul, welcome to xlights there is a lot to learn but plenty of resources and people willing to help. There are some great videos that can be found at the videos.xlights.org site one of which is how to import a sequence by Keith where he uses one of Logans sequences in the video and I think it may even be the Star Wars sequence.
I would suggest hopping into zoom ( the link is on the front page of xlights.org ) there is usually someone in there that can help you get sorted. Also join the Facebook group as there is a lot of activity on there and you will often get quicker and more responses.

I'll take a look at your files and see if I can help you with the sequence.

Thank you Stuart for the information. I signed up on Zoom and it seems to be working. Not sure what to do from this point.

I will check out Facebook.

Thanks for looking at my files, any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. I’m running out of time...the Wedding is September 7th. The StarWars sequence is the last of the sequences(I will have 5 total).

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Paul, "I signed up on Zoom..."
You don't have to sign up on Zoom, unless you are planning on hosting your own meetings.
Just click on the "Zoom Meeting" button on xLights.org.
The primary meeting for most people is on Wednesday night, at 6PM Central (US).  There are get togethers up there often during the week, so ....

Welcome to DIYC!
