Selection of standard sub models for P10 type matrix.

Hi, thank for all the great work you do. I created an effect for P10 panels that I think could be quite popular if offered as an effect in xLights.

My P10 matrix is 64 pixels wide and 160 pixels high, I set this up as I believe to be normal.
I then sub modelled 24 lines which when all on form a Holdman star, the video show this better than I can describe.

This was done on a spread sheet and exported as a .cvs then copied and pasted to setup the sub models and is sequenced as normal pixels would be rather than an image or video that you would normally expect with P10s.

It occurred that or though it involves quite a bit of work, as this is maths based it could be created within xLights and scaled to fit the size of any P10 matrix. I appreciate that a Holdman star may not be the most exciting effect but singing faces, pumpkins, trees and bulbs, along with stars, spinners, wreathes and pretty much anything that is made from corro or wire frames could be mapped. This would effectively give anyone with a P10 matrix access to a collection of virtual props.

Anyway just a thought. As xLights works well for me I don’t tend to check in here much so if you need more info it might be quicker to PM on the green site.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Wow things move so quickly these days, I hadn’t seen the ‘xLights Matrix Face Download’ video. As process this is exactly what I was thinking about but still uses images which are always going to be poor on even moderate pixel count and come with limitations as to sequencing. What I was hoping for was to be able download a simpler outline face which ended up as sub model strings. Basically recreating coro on a matrix. At the moment (when I get time) I’m mapping a singing tree on to a 64 wide by 160 grid which is the same size as my P10 20 panel matrix, once completed I’ll create 10 or so sub models the same as you would if you used coro and strings of pixels and sequence. I appreciate that this may construed as dumbing down the abilities of matrix but I like the look of coro props and because of the pixel density of P10s, I have the ability to reproduce the coro props and wire frames in my show if I find the time to map them.

I'd need Keith to chime in whether he has videos or instructions for what I'm remembering.  It was like 2 years ago at the xLights Vegas Seminar Keith demonstrated the ability to create something in Excel that I thought could create the equivalent of something like an 8 channel singing face but on a Matrix.
