cut and paste alignment

I want to create series of effects then cut and paste them after each other to quickly fill out a song. However, whenever I paste, the length of each effect changes, so I cannot quickly fill out a song without lots of hand corrections.

1) Create 2 effects aligned with the beat
2) Copy effects from Step 1 to another channel (works fine and is aligned with beat)
3) Copy effects from Step 1 immediately after effects from Step 2

The pasted effects will now be longer!

What am I doing wrong?

You're pasting by time you need to change the setting on the top to paste by cell.
