the video effects are Red on my P10 panel
« on: March 18, 2019, 08:27:08 PM »
Hello there,
I've downloaded the Greatest Showman sequence from Xlights around the world.  Most things seem to work fine  but the videos on my P10 panel are red.  I understand that it's a problem with Xlights trying to load the video file.  I ran Check Sequence and I'm getting an error message that it's trying to read the file from the Google Drive.  So apparently there's a problem with the path.  I still very new to this and this is the first time I've tried to work with a P10 panel and videos.  So if there's a Tutorial Video that shows how to do the Video Effect that would be great.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dennis

Courtesy of Gil.  The version has changed, but the basics are the same.

Thank you for posting the link.  But he moves rather fast and it appears that it's an older version of Xlights.  When I click on the Video Effect button I don't get the same screen as in his video.  And there doesn't seem to be any way to point to where the video file is.

Here is an example of the error I'm getting in the Check Sequence file.
Effect problems
WARN: Video effect unlocked but only locked video effects are being render cached. Effect: Video, Model: 01 - Whole House NO YARD, Start 0:00.000
ERR: Video effect video file 'D:\Dropbox\The Greatest Show\Greatest Showman\CC0 - Gold Curtain Opening.mp4' does not exist. Model '01 - Whole House NO YARD', Start 0:00.000
WARN: Video effect unlocked but only locked video effects are being render cached. Effect: Video, Model: 02 - Whole House, Start 1:07.650
ERR: Video effect video file 'D:\Dropbox\The Greatest Show\Greatest Showman\Flashing Lights.mov' does not exist. Model '02 - Whole House', Start 1:07.650
I copied the video files from his directory to the video files directory on my PC.  But as you can see it looks like Xlights is still looking for the file on the D:\Dropbox\The Greatest Show...   directory.  So how do I change the path to where my Xlights looks for Video files?

hi , this may not apply but...., are the video panels actually RGB, ie Red displays red, Blue displays blue etc.
MY P10's were fine but some of my other strips were RBG, BGR, etc so i had to change those strings at the controller, just maybe apnels aren't RGB, but some other format, hence colour is off- longshot i  know,
Cheers Boof63

Yeah don't use that old video of mine.  I should delete it because it's an outdated method that we used to use before the video effect existed.  This should be super simple.  Just drag a video effect to the timeline or click on an existing video effect in your sequence.  Over in the effect settings panel its probably the first parameter that is the link to the file.  click in the box and then click the 3 dots"..." and it will open up a file browser for you to select the file.  Red is what we display to indicate the file could not be found.

Thank you for your replies Gil and Boof63,  I did figure out what was going on.  Gil, as you suggested I went into the Effects Settings and saw where you can reset the path to where the video files are located.  My problem was that I wasn't scrolling down far enough in the window where I could see the path setting.  It seemed though that I had to reset each effect individually.  Is there a way to set the path for all of the video effects?  And Boof, yes I am able to test the panel successfully from the Falcon Player.  But now I can't get it to play from Xlights.  I run the test in Xlights and it doesn't seem to work.   :-\

Well its a little more advanced but I just open up the sequence XML file in Notepad++ and then do a search and replace on the filepaths and fix them all in 30 seconds.

If you select a video effect. Then press ctrl-a to select all video effects then find the video file entry field and right click it there is a menu item that lets you set all the video folder names.

No need to open the XML.

Thank you for your response.  I did as you said; I clicked on the video file, then hit ctrl+a, but that didn't seem to select all of the video files.  I did right click and I was able to see the menu you mentioned.  But now I have a bigger problem.  Xlights is crashing and generating a report.  I tried to find the report but wasn't able to.  At this point I'm not sure what to do.   Any suggestions?

The crash you posted it related to the effect assist window so for now just turn off that window under settings.  You don't really need it.  Also is importing and running The Greatest Showman the first thing you're trying to do with xLights?  You picked a fairly complex operation to learn on.  So you don't know what to do.  How about create a new sequence and start learning the program.

I have gone through several of the Beginner tutorials.  And in the response I gave you on the other thread, I set it up as a simple sequence with just a few props.  As you suggested I added a Butterfly effect to the P10 panel and it still doesn't work.  At this point I'm just trying to get my equipment set up properly.

I went through several of the beginner recorded seminars but in those Keith doesn't go into detail on all of the Effects.  It's pretty basic.  Are there videos that are like Xlights 101, 102, 201, etc?
