3D objects not listed in Layout
« on: May 07, 2019, 07:24:48 AM »
3D objects not listed in layout.. I added three grids with the ADD OBJ button. They show up in the preview, but not on the list of 3D Objects.  I can't delete them.

I'm not at home so all I could do now is a quick look at the rgbeffects file.  My guess at the problem is the LayoutGroup is listed as "2017".  I'm not sure if the 3D objects support the multiple previews.  The 3D layout was supposed to make it so you don't need multiple previews because you can place everything in the layout and use multiple view angles.  If you edit the XML while the program is closed and change those ViewObjects from LayoutGroup "2017" to "Default" I bet they will show up.

well that didn't work! I saw gridlines in the list but when I deleted it, I lost the main grid and most of my models! The other grids didn't change.

Going back to a earlier backup! Start again

What?  I didn't say to delete anything.  What did you do?

You were supposed to just change "2017" to "Default" in these lines:

<view_object name="Gridlines-2" DisplayAs="Gridlines" LayoutGroup="2017"
<view_object name="Gridlines-3" DisplayAs="Gridlines" LayoutGroup="2017"
<view_object name="Gridlines-4" DisplayAs="Gridlines" LayoutGroup="2017"

LOL missed that important point...before I got your message I re-established the original issue with my backup.  No problem...I went back in to rgbeffects and re-did what I thought was your suggestion.  As it turns out all the models and 3D object were in the layout All Models...I deleted the grids in 3d objects and all is good (?).

I will re-do with only changes to the lines you suggested. I'll let you know

Thank God for Backup!!

Summary:
To edit or not to edit the lights_rgbeffect.xml: NOT; the original preview of 2017 did had the gridlines displayed but I couldn't list or change them.  BUT if you went to All Models preview you can view 3D objects and make changes including deleting them.

There still is the Lights warning box about a duplicate file on the desktop.  Makes no sense since there is only one folder of that name on the desktop and its not being used by Xlights. see attachment

Hope this helps.  BTW: did you add the feature to move the 2D photo; you discussed it in the video?

The message looks like corrupt settings.

Running xlights with the -w command line switch will likely clear it but you will need to reconfigure xlights as it restores xlights to first install state.

I ran lights from the Mac terminal command line with -w.  so far so good.  I exited terminal and re-stated lights: all good, until I switched preview and I get the message again. In fact every time use change the preview you get the message.

your Thoughts?

You should be able to delete the "~Library/Preferences/xLights-Bookmarks\ Preferences" file.   That's used to record all the files/directories that you have selected via the file dialogs so that if we ever have to convert to a fully sandboxed application, things will keep working.   Right now, we aren't sandboxed so it's not a big deal to remove it.
