Ribbon Light Mounting
« on: May 28, 2019, 11:29:10 AM »
I'm using ribbon lights once again this year (pixels instead) to do outlining last year I just kinda threw them up. This year I want to do something a lot nicer and something cleaner minimizing drilling holes into the house. Can some of you show your ideas? I have windows and doors to outline with these ribbons. Just looking for some ideas thats all.

Maybe some of these photos might give you ideas.
Most of my strips are silicone to half-inch PVC then mounted to the house in some fashion.

Exactly what I was looking for, my houses windows and stuff is outlined wit the material that is on your garage doors, it looks like you cut the ribbon placed it how you wanted it and soldered it together with the flat wire from Holiday Coro correct?

The stuff that goes around the windows and doors that you're referring to is called j-channel.
I used pieces of J channel cut to fit neatly behind the j-channel that's around the windows and doors and then silicone the strip to the surface of that J channel with a flat 18 gauge piece of wire long enough to allow movement.
The j-channel comes with slotted holes that are supposed to be used for mounting it to the house, I use a tin snip and cut that section off so it slides tight against the j-channel on the house.
There's also holes on the ends of the J channel so I can run zip ties through there to hold the corners together.

Okay gotcha that make sense, that pixel gap between the two J channels, is it noticeable from far? My setup wont have like a slight curve its all 90 degrees so this should be fairly simple.

I have them tight enough on my house that they look seamless from the street.

Curious doing the windows, would you be doing something similar to what you did with the garage? or would you just hang them around seeing as ribbons dont really bend around things.
