3D on Rolling Ground
« on: July 31, 2019, 09:13:45 PM »
I've been studying the use of 3D modeling in xLights.
Everything I have read and seen (videos) looks to be on a flat surface.
I'm having to setup on the hillsides (both sides) of a 40' deep valley.
If there are instructions on setting up in a situation like this, please point me in the right direction.

I believe this (3D) is going to be a great thing for me, but I have to find out how to make it work in a "hilly situation".

Thanks in advance!
Al

You can place things anywhere in the 3D space you like.  Nobody says you gotta keep them all on a flat surface.  People that use those drone mapping programs have been importing 3D surfaces that match the contour of their yards.  I don't think we are going to add a moldable mesh grid if that's what you're looking for.

That is information I did not have.  Perhaps I can find one of my friends that can run a drone down the valley, and then transfer that to the program. Thanks Gil, I'll look into that.

I don't expect there are many ways to make the mesh grid "moldable".  I especially don't  expect this type of ability in xLights.  What is there is far beyond what I dreamed of, so I'll learn to make it happen within the confines of what is already presented.

What you have here is overwhelming.  Good job!!!

I used DroneDeploy to create the 3d ojbject of my front yard and house, worked great and to scale.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm back on trying to learn 3D.  This time, I actually have a reason to. :)

Is there any source of maps with some relief to them?  Topographical maps would be perfect.
