I use Vegas Pro ...a little bit of a learning curve but not bad, an believe me, I'm no computer guy!  Used the standard Windows Movie Maker for a couple years, even a cave man can use it!

I use Sony Movie Studio 12. Easy to learn and use and quite inexpensive. It is not free but you can catch it on sale and get it at a good price.

While not free, you can download a trial version of Cyberlnk Powerdirector.  I've been using it for years.  Very easy ad very powerful, plus fastest rendering of any editor.  You can buy it on eBay ($69 I think) much cheaper than online through Cyberlink.  100 tracks plus LOTS of tutorials on youtube

I've been using Windows Movie Maker.  It's a great, easy, and free way to publish lights videos.

I also have Premiere 6.X on my desktop machine.  If I were making a video or movie it has more bells and whistles that would make it my choice.  My issue is the version of Premiere I have doesn't support HD, so there's that.
