Testing Renard serial first two channels locked on ??
« on: September 17, 2019, 03:14:04 AM »
Question maybe for Keith, when testing my Renard chains using the test panel the first two channels in the chain stay locked on, but all others can be selected one at a time as normal by mouse clicking on the appropriate channel.  When the test option is run up all channels are off, but when the first two are selected to test they stay on regardless of the mouse click, but all others do as expected, On / Off - no problems, including the "Global" On / Off.

I did not observe this last season, so am a bit concerned.

No idea. I don’t think anything has changed

Further digging, I have tried another Renard Chain, with the same effect, also updated XLights to 2019.50, no change.

This affects only the two first channels on Ren chains, when using the test utility. So long as the first two channels are not activated/selected they stay "Off", I can select No 3 or others and they work as expected On / Off on a mouse click, but the moment No 1 or No 2 is selected it stays on for the duration of the run of xLights, and only gets a reset when xLights is run up the next time.

Thankfully it works perfectly when a sequence is run through using the sequencer, automatic re-set to zero at the start and end of the sequence, as far as I can see using a set of test lights on the Renard box.

Maybe a red herring but an "interesting" effect that I hadn't observed before as I had not needed to test these particular channels individually before.

Which test effect were you using. Did you get the same result if you say selected 11 and 12 only.

Hi Keith,

Test effect was "All ON" and from memory all the channels were bistable On/Off except the first two.

I seem to remember that the Renard protocol has an unusual numbering system, maybe that is coming into play ?

Thanks for your time,

Terry

There is no such test mode in xLights called "All On"

Maybe you could make a video to show what you are doing and what is occurring. I have no access to any renard equipment so I need you to show me what is going on.

Hi Keith, Thanks for taking the time to investigate, maybe a bit of miss-terminology involved  :-(  I have attached some screen grabs:-

Pic 1 -  Turns all channels on in the Renard chain, when the check-box is cleared No's 1 & 2 stay on - all others go  Off.

Pic 2 - If xLights is run up again and the output to lights is turned on, then off, Ch's 1 & 2 are turned off. The go to "Test"  if Ch 1 and/or Ch 2 check-boxes are clicked the two channels then come on as expeced, but will not go out when the boxes are un-checked

Pic 3 - Repeat the above and clear channels 1 & 2, then click in any other channels check-box, (No 3 shown), and the channel comes on while another click in the same check-box clears it and the channel goes off, as expected.

I hope that all makes sense, sorry to be a pain  :-(
