Dividing Timing marks
« on: October 02, 2019, 09:09:47 AM »
When you right click between two timing marks we get several options that come up including dividing that section in half.

I'd love to have more options on how to divide up the timings.  Ideally, it would prompt the user as to how many divisions you would like to add (instead of having to divide it 4 times to get 16ths of a larger section you could just tell it to divide in to 16 sections)  Also sometimes, dividing in to 3 would be good and that's not possible with the current options.

Thanks for the amazing software and all of the great features you do offer so far.  :)

I don’t really see this as something generally useful. Being able to spilt sure. It gives you an easy way to split in 2,4,8 and 16. Other numbers seem less useful.

IT helps with songs that are in 3/4 time as well as TSO songs that sometimes have 12 measures of a section of a song

Why not just use vamp if you want beats.

I have found that the vamp plug-ins are not as good  to get triplet and other musical phrasings. Dividing by 3 would allow timings to be made for passages with triplets or something with 6/8 time as well

Vamp can do 3/4 timing just fine but yeah you gotta learn how to use it.  If its a more complex song like it starts in 4/4 and changes to 3/4 then you need to use Audacity and highlight each section to run the plugin and then export/import the timings into xLights.  Usually whenever someone tells us they can do better than Vamp they really can't...lol.

I find, as a drummer, it is easier and more accurate to tap the downbeat of each measure and then subdivide those sections to get the smaller timings.  You would only have to tap the song once to do this. I stopped using the audacity and vamp plug-ins because I was unhappy with the placment of the timings.
However If someone could point me to where I could find out how to get audacity to accurately find 16th and 32nd notes, triplets and dotted half notes that would be appreciated.

Then fine tap it out.  We already provide that capability just play the sequence with a timing track select and tap the "t" key.  But realize once the timing gets quantized down into the sequence duration usually 50ms its going to move a little.  None of your last post has much to do with the request to split a section into fixed intervals.  By the way I play drums and electric guitar on a regular basis.

I am not trying to be rude, sorry if it came across that way. I do tap it out, that's why I would love to be able to easily select multiple or all  timings and divide them by 3. Just like right clicking the model line to select effects.
