-hav uses the Mac built in "hardware accelerated video"/mp4 decoders instead of the software based decoder that we have always used.   Thus, it SHOULD render a lot faster for sequences that have a lot of video effects.    However, it's a bit experimental.    For sequences without videos it shouldn't behave any different.
