Effects not changing on edit
« on: October 12, 2019, 10:59:21 PM »
So I got on to tonight and before doing anything I updated to the latest version of Xlights.

So went edit some old sequences and I seem to be having a problem.  I delete the old effect (or click on it) and change the settings, but when I try to play it the old one is still there.  If I click on the space in the timeline the old effect is still there.

I thought maybe there was something wrong with my old sequence so I created a brand new one, filled it with random effects, and when I went to delete the ones I didn't like, some of them deleted and I could replace them, but others refused to be deleted, new effects weren't filled in and when I click on the space in the timeline they  still there.  The very first effect in particular seems impossible to delete and/or change.  But it isn't just the first one, others have the same problem, but not all of them do.

Never mind, I went back to the exact same sequence and I can't reproduce the problem.   Don't waste your time until I can reproduce it.

OK so I think I have a better grasp on the issue .....

1) I have an effect I don't like, say "tree" on a single line sequence
2) I delete "tree"
3) I  pic a new effect, say "VU meter" from the menu
4) I  place it on the empty spot
5) I get "tree" instead of the effect I just chose.

I repeated this 5 times .....

And then I saved the sequence, went back and it worked correctly again.

You need to render all (paint pallette icon). Chances are you have render on save so that is doing it for you so that it magically works when you reopen the sequence.

I can't tell how you are doing this.  Are you saying you delete the effect and then use the combobox in the Effect Settings panel to change the effect name and then you are dragging the icon from that panel over?  I've never even used that panel to do that so not sure how that all works.  If you drag effects from the toolbar I bet everything will work fine.  I wish we would delete that combobox from the panel.

I did indeed try changing the combo box, and yes, that did reproduce the problem.  In fact it probably started it.   After that failed I tried to drag from the tool bar and had the same issue.  Then I saved it, broken as it was and as mentioned after it re-rendered it the problem was gone.  It isn't a huge big deal, easy enough to work around I guess with the render all or save  command but something isn't quite right.  I will see if I can reproduce it without using the combo box and if so re-post, otherwise I will just not use that.

Yeah, I will try and make a video this weekend.  It isn't the end of the world as it can be worked around, but maybe something that should be addressed.    Thanks for you responses.
