Straight Lline
« on: October 13, 2019, 08:26:15 AM »
I am doing something different this year and want to make sure I am doing it correctly.

I am using 2812B ribbon strips with 150 nodes per 16'4" strip.

I have a place this year that will take one full 150 node strip and one partial 60 node strip (I cut one down to size)
for a total line of 210 nodes or 630 channels.  This will make one straight line.  Normally, everywhere I have used these strips, either one full strip or a partial strip is all I have needed to cover the space.

My controllers only handle 510 channels per port so I will have to use two ports on one controller to power them but I want to program them as one long line.

I typically define everything in the setup tab as
Univ 1 Num Ch 510
Univ 2 Num Ch 510
etc
no matter how many channels are used.

My question is how do I  define this line in the layout and setup?

Are you sure about that limitation of the controller. Some controllers have that limitation but some are just users misunderstanding universes and ports etc.

If the limitation is real then as long as you are manually configuring the controller you can still draw it as one line and just have it span multiple universes.

If you want to use controller upload though you will have issues.

Keith,

yea, the controller will do more but with the ribbon strips, distance is a big problem and I don't do power injection (by choice).

I get univ/ch/ports

Not doing controller upload.

So… do I draw this in layout as one continuous 210 node line with a string or does it need to be drawn as 1 string of 150 nodes and string 2 of 60 nodes?

Draw it as one line then its the controller that takes care of splitting the data and sending it to the right strings.  xLights doesn't really need to know its 2 pieces.
