Pixel strand individual test with FPP
« on: November 05, 2019, 06:32:35 AM »
Hello everyone!
I’m in the process of building my “Mega Tree”
It’s 8’ made up of 15 strands of Ws2811 pixel nodes.
When I laced the strands while hanging them, I
simply “Daisy chained” them together.  “Up- down, up-
down” across all 15 strands, I get all but the last two strands
to light up in test mode on my Falcon F16 V3.

Is there a specific way I need to wire these together, or am I
correct in my daisy chain method?  One thing I wanted to
mention before I get too far, is that I’ve been using the supplied
Quick connects, and I suspect these might be giving me
problems. I’m going to solder the connections just in ensure they
are positively connected.

I have not attempted to try a sequence on my tree yet. I have power injection
at every 50 nodes(5volt ws2811) and the last two strands I read 4.87 volts, so
the power is making it through the strands. I know that there is a test function
in the FPP  just wondering how I test individual strands. Any guidance on how to do
this?
Thank you!
Ben Smith

Did you setup the Falcon to know how many pixels are on the output?

The test function in FPP requires you to know the channel range you want to test.  Or run from xLights and drop an effect on one strand.

I did put the number of nodes per strand and the channels for each, as I had stated, I have yet to try running
an effect or sequence just yet(tonight most likely)
I will double check the channels/node count once more just to be certain.
Thanks!

Ok, so I powered everything up last night, brought up my FPP and Falcon F16 V3 in my laptop, as I was looking over my settings for Channels and Universes, I noticed that I had “Checked” “Absolute Addressing”, once I unchecked that, I was able to display my Mega tree prop, however, I had to change my channels from 510 to 512,
and I had a few channels that were blacked out(I had them checked) so two strands weren’t coming on, but now it’s all good. The only remaining issue I have is my FPP drops out after several minutes, then I have to reload the browser page, same thing with the Falcon. I have the FPP on both Wlano and etho1 192.168.1.xxx and 192.168.2.xxx. The Falcon has been bringing up Random IP addresses for some reason, one day it was
192.168.1.025 then it was 192.168.1.030, don’t know if its my laptop assigning random IP addresses for security
reasons or? Guess I need to set up static addresses and be done with it.
Have a great evening!
