LOR Boxes randomly blinking
« on: November 26, 2019, 09:10:21 PM »
Hey guys, a few days before I plan to light up my show, I have been noticing some random issues, and it has started to become a real problem. It has stayed above 15F the entire time I have had the boxes outside, however, whenever I plug my USB485 adapter into my laptop, some of the lights start to go on and off randomly. I tried a bunch of xlights settings, but that hasn't solved anything. I tried plugging it into a Raspberry PI, and the issue persisted. I think that it is either my cat5e cables or my USB adapter. I have a 5 foot cat5e cable going in between the boxes, and a 25 foot cat5e cable from the laptop to the first box. I really hope its the cable, the next worst would be the adapter, and my biggest fear is that one, or potentially both of the boxes have some issues. Does anyone have any ideas?

also, should I have my boxes plugged in all the time, or only before and slightly after them?

I have tried different computers, a different cable, and I am pretty sure that it is my USB485 adapter or the boxes. I have made a LOR ticket on their site for further help. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

It looks like a few of the channels are still blinking randomly. I have isolated it to the primary box, and only the primary box, no adapters, or cables. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I will try to fix it after winter

If it happens on both xlights and the pi it is either in your sequence (try drilling down to the node level to see if it is there) or it’s a hardware issue.

Have you tried a terminating resistor at the end of the data line?

Keithsw111 - We are having a similar problem with channel 1 on each of several LOR AC controllers. They randomly turn on and sometimes shimmer on their own during a show. But this problem doesn't appear when these lights are being used in the sequence, only when they are not being used. Can the Pi player help resolve this? Meantime, we will double check our sequences down to the node level as you suggested.
