Lost show folder
« on: December 14, 2019, 03:51:56 PM »
Hi,

I recently lost my show folder. What no backup i hear you cry. So I would like to know if it is possible to open the fseq file from my Pi in xLights. Each time I try it xLights crashes. I have the latest version of xLights installed, 2019.70.

Thanks.

I feel bad for you, and that totally sucks!

Unfortunately, you can't recreate the info from a FSEQ file.  It is one-way and only in binary now.

You can probably rebuild your setup section of xLights from going to each of the controllers and manually entering it back into xLights.  Otherwise, I think you have to start from scratch.   Depending on the state you were in when it happened, you could just roll-on with the sequences you have, and create new ones... not worrying about the old ones?

Also, don't forget about all the community provided sequences, that can help get you going quickly!

How do you not have backups they are on by default?  Did you turn it off?  Did you delete the folder?  Hard drive crash?

You might be able to use an undelete program to find the deleted folder. Windows does'nt delete it, just makes it not visible. Until it is overwritten, it might be recoverable.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. It was a hard drive crash. I was a bit suspicious and although I had a backup of my music and photos managed to update them before total disk failure. I didn't think any further as I don't use the PC for lots of document creating (all done on the work laptop). It wasn't until I thought I would update the sophisticated light show that consists of half a Mega Tree (even that was tolerated begrudgingly) that I discovered the show folder wasn't where it was supposed to be. It's now in my One Drive folder. Now to remember how I got it all working.

BTW big displays with pixel controllers are not popular here in the UK. I'm cutting edge technology in my street.

Merry Christmas

Vince

Is the HD totally toast or could you get into the HD outside of the computer. I have an external drive I can put a HD into and sometimes are able to find things on it. But more importantly......back up!
