Node 1 on butterfly??

Why is Node 1 on my butterfly effect on a string of 50 pixels always a solid color? and is there any way to change it?

Because that is what butterfly does. You can adjust it by moving the subbuffer left or bottom slightly left or down. This will make the solid red node not mapped to any lights.
