xSchedule "Spooked" by "Win Update" :-(
« on: December 20, 2019, 07:16:23 AM »
xSchedule has run brilliantly until tonight, when a massive delay appeared on my Renard Serial port data. Once I got to the machine I discovered that the processor activity had jumped on two cores up to 50% or so when it normally runs at 1 - 2 % when running my show.  I closed xSchedule down, and the processor activity didn't change, with no applications showing in Task manager's application tab.  A few seconds after I re-booted xSchedule, and re-started the nights show,  the excessive processor activity suddenly stopped and  returned to the "normal" 1 - 2% again, and ran like a dream for the rest of the night.

Due to a fault in the PC's clock software/hardware I have to run with the internet connected, and run a lightweight internet time updater to keep the clock in sync, hence the potential of M$ getting in the way.  I have now told it not to look for updates!!  I will do them manually if/when it is "safe" to do so!

It is interesting that when the processor gets hit with a lot of activity/load, it is the serial ports that get hit with delay and slow down, spitting out data in miscellaneous chunks, while the E1.31 data carries on with no problems at all!!

The PC is a HP Workstation, Win 7 64 bit, 2.5 Gig Quadcore and 6 Gig's of Ram, with a 4 x Serial Port PCI Card for the Renard serial outputs.

I have attached the Log File, where I re-started the schedule, then jumped to what would have been the next sequence in the original schedule list prior to the restart, if anyone is interested  :-)

Cheers, and have a happy Christmas,

Terry
