« on: December 28, 2019, 01:30:05 PM »
I am one of those still running a 32 bit computer & will need to upgrade to keep using xLights. Is this a good one?https://www.newegg.com/p/1VK-0001-532K4?Item=9SIACAGAJ26710

Not necessarily a good one but it will work.
It looks like an old bare minimum office machine that they're reselling as refurbished.
I personally would rather see it with a single 1TB SSD instead of the combination that they have. You're going to have to pay attention to where you're storing your files.
But if you're running a machine old enough to still have a 32-bit operating system it'll be a huge Improvement.

So if I am reading you correct your suggestion would be to delete the 128 GB of Solid State Drive & just use the 1 TB drive.

1TB solid state drive. I'm sure the 1tb drive they have in there is a mechanical Drive.
I guarantee they're going to charge a little more for that if they're using a decent drive like one of the Samsung 860 EVO.

It would be fine.  With two drives you will want to be sure to put the xlights show folders on the 1TB hard drive. or you will fill up the SSD pretty fast as it is only a 128gb.  My current desktop has a 256gb SSD which is my C drive and a 1tb hard drive which is my D drive.  I have a folder on D called xlights and underneath that I have folders for different years or different test scenarios.  I have been using the 256gb SSD for a couple of years and have not gone over 200gb but I am carefully where I store my big folders and always put them on the D drive.

No, I wouldn't, in fact I haven't.
Have same set up in my computer, a fast SSD drive for the operating system and programs and a 1TB HDD for storing all my data.
As jnealand said - just create a folder on the 1TB drive (probably will be the D: drive) called xlights

Handy thing having the 2 drives it's easy and cheap to buy an external 1TB HDD and do backups to it of all your data.

I think Ebuechner was saying it would be nice to have a 1TB SSD instead of the 128GB one that computer comes with.
I know just enough to be dangerous :0
