Any tips on sequencing dmx moving heads
« on: January 30, 2020, 06:38:14 PM »
Not only am I for sure finally making the switch from LOR to Xlights, I will also be sequencing moving heads this year with Xlights. Before I get started with sequencing them, does anyone have any tips or tricks I should know of? I'm sure it will be tedious work but I love the fact that Xlights has a model for them.

Yes it can be tedious work :)

One tip is to connect 1 up to xlights and note down the positions of the head when you enter different values for pan and tilt. If like me you'll want the moving head to only pan between limited values (eg 30 to 150 degrees so it only covers your yard) then it's good to know what values between 0 and 255 that relates to.

Tip I got from Keith is to use the States feature if you are going to use your moving heads to point to particular places in your display. Example: if say you had an inflatable Santa in the yard and you work out the pan and tilt numbers to move the head to spotlight it. Then you can enter that as a State effect and not have to remember actual numbers each time.

Tip from Gil, if you want the head to be pointing in a certain direction when the light comes on, then add a short effect before to 'aim' the head to the right location with the light off.

I know just enough to be dangerous :0
