what effect is this
« on: March 02, 2020, 05:01:27 PM »
Hi
Looking at trying to see what effect is being used in the video link below at the 7:22 mark.  he is using it for violins which I would like to use in my show.  Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thank you.
ps. I have tried contacting the youtuber but haven't seen a response and I don't use FB.

It looks like they are using the Boscoyo Mini trees. The effect being used could be the ON effect for each individual strand or the Single Strand Effect, which is my guess.  https://tinyurl.com/rjpek6f

thanks for the reply
Yes, I believe they are using the boscoyo trees as well.  However, I wasn't sure what effect was being used to make the lines go up and down along with the violin sounds.  I have been playing with the single line effect, curtain, etc.

Try their Facebook page - "Holiday Photonics".

I did not see anywhere on their YouTube or Facebook site that that states he used xLights to program the mini trees. He might have used LOR Superstar to get that affect. If you get a reply back, can you let me know? Just curious, that display of the mini trees does look good.

Fill effect applied at the Strand level with a value curve set as a ramp and about number 12 set on the blur.
You will have to use the left and right direction on the fill effect because the Strand buffer doesn't honor the actual direction of the Strand.

Well I got a reply from the youtuber, but he really doesn't want to give out his secret.  Which I understand.
However, this is what he did say.

"The effect was not done in XLights. I wrote my own post processing and effect system that overwrites frames in the FSEQ output. It?s one of the reasons why our shows look slightly different, that effect being one of the biggest differences.
The show is old at this point. At the time, XLights did not support GPU shaders, but I hear that it does now support OpenGL 3 GLSL shader model. I used my own image processing library and Vulkan shader model, but you could accomplish the same thing with OpenGL. I don?t know how XLights integrates with the effects and what not, but that?s probably the best way to try to pull off the effect."

Unfortunately, I don't understand what he said, so I am still at a loss.  Still trying to figure it out.

There is an effect in this sequence that might work.  It is just on the megatree, but could be applied to a mini I would think.

Looks like a pretty easy effect to do with Morphs but you will need to hand craft them.  The good news is once you create a couple you just copy paste or use presets.

Ok, now you have more questions.  :)
I am fairly new to this stuff so I don't know much about the morph effect and handcrafting them I wouldn't know where to start.  Do you have any suggestions on how to create it using morph?
I started using the single line effect, but very time consuming process.
Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Ducebigalow, Have you figured out how to do the morph and some other settings? If not I can send you a small amount that I did.

Hi Brightlights,
No I haven't figured out the morph effect, was just pluggin away with the single line, but as mentioned very time consuming.  Must be an easier way.
Sure, if you have something that I could look at I would appreciate it.  Thanks

Here you go. Like I said I just did very little amount but maybe that small amount might help you with other ideals. I used the song Carol Of The Bells by Lindsey Stirling. I setup four of 180 mini trees to test. Download the .xml file then click on import and then import the .xml file and drag and drop the trees that I have to your trees.
