Bug with Model Blending or User Error??
« on: June 30, 2020, 07:59:44 AM »
I was trying to figure out what the Sequence setting of "Model Blending Default Off" actually does. I searched but couldn't find an explanation. The manual talks about it but it doesn't explain it and to me it is confusing as to what it is doing it says:
"When checked, the Model Blending option in the sequence settings dialog will be disables by default when creating a new sequence."

I was talking to someone that has a Mac and his preferences actually state "Allow Blending Between Models" so how would one model blend with another one?

I tried to test the option to see if I could figure it out (using Windows and 2020.26) and created a simple sequence with a layer on a model thinking it might affect the layer blending worked. I didn't see anything different, so I went back to the Preferences to unselect the option to see if I could see a change, but the option was not selected. I tried several ways to set that option, but each time I re-opened the settings it wasn't checked.

It looks like if I select the option, it doesn't save that state? So I am not sure if I was ever actually testing with the option selected.

What does the Blending between models actually do?
And am I doing something wrong in trying to set that option?

I have no idea about the saving of the option but model blending means when a model is blended or not on top of a group that contains that model.  Without blending you normally would render the group effect and the model effect would replace those pixels it overlaps.  With blending instead of a replace it blends with whatever is already there based on the blending option of the effect on the model.

Thanks Gil. I think I am following.
Without the Blending option enabled (the wording is confusing on the new version) If you have a Model in a group and apply an effect to the Group and then to an individual model. The Model level effect will overwrite the Group effect and the Group effect will not show during the period the Model level effect is playing?
But if you select the Blending option, the Group Effect will blend with the Model level effect based on your layer blending settings?

Is that correct?

Since I don't know if I actually have it enabled or not or even the ability to enable it, I don't see a difference, it is always blending the effects.

If you didn't see it change you have the render order wrong or something.  I created a matrix and then a group with just the matrix.  I put a Butterfly on the group and a Fan effect on the matrix.  This is the result with blending on and off.  With blending off the entire matrix has a black background that overwrites the butterfly on the group.
