changes to models
« on: December 14, 2014, 04:06:49 PM »
If I change the name of a model or modify its settings, will just opening a xseq file and resaving it pass on those changes or do I now have two different models?

you can't rename a model... you can easily copy a model, but not rename.
even if you went into the xml file to change it -- it would break the connection in the sequence xml files that refer to that name.

you can change the model type, open the xseq file and resave.

still, i have gotten uncomfortable about changing models because the way that nutcracker writes to the existing files -- part of the way that it deals with lsp and lor merges.

so i do one of 2 things when changing models -- changing channels, removing strings, etc.

1) delete the xseq file and open the music file, then pull in the xml file

or

2) open the xseq file -- and while xlights is open go to an explorer window and delete the xseq file -- and resave in xlights.  the contents of the old xseq won't interfere because they were removed.

I've renamed models, but it was mostly before I started saving the xseqs to become a production file.  I've used the technique to start a sequence over a number of times.  Even now that the show is running.  I don't like some of the effects that were generated using the random button. So I am either starting over and saving the xseq with a v2 at the end of the name.

You can rename a model in the model screen. Suppose you hade MEGA and you wanted to call it MEGATREE.
You can rename it.

Now what we dont do on rename is go through all of your models and change MEGA into MEGATREE. Sow what happens?

When you open a sequence it will say it found a MEGA and it doesnt exist in your model list. It then asks do you want to
1) Delete it
2) Rename it

choose 2)
You then scroll down and select MEGATREE

Now your sequence has been renamed to the new model name.

I changed my windows dumb RGB to smart pixels. How do I get my sequences to recognize the change? I changed all the models and tried the open, delete and resave but nothing has worked. Please help!
