Controller Visualizer and DMX channels
« on: December 09, 2020, 06:10:30 PM »
Hello everyone,
First off, let me thank everyone involved with Xlights.  I have been thru 3 different programs over the years to sequence Christmas lights but I am not even scratching the surface of what can be done with Xlights!!!
Over the years I have cheated and skimped on learning the sequencing software and focused on hardware and props.

This leads me to my questions (sorry, i don't have any good diagrams:(  working on it)

I am running Falcon Player going out to a Falcon V3.  That is connected also to a new Falcon V3 for my new megatree(old one was dmx and a lot of light strands:))

From my first Falcon V3 I am using serial port 3 to output to my 8 DMX controllers.  I have everything working fine.

Now I am trying to get up to speed on some of the fantastic features of Xlights and I have been playing with the controller visualizer, in fact, I used it to setup my megatree this year and it worked great.
I also upgraded the other Falcon V3 to 2.59 in order to be able to use the latest greatest on that.  I do have a few RGB props connected to that and the controller visualizer worked great!

Now for the real question:
I am looking at the controller visualizer and it shows all my AC props as I set them up.  I am assuming that I can drag and drop them onto serial three in the visualizer just like the RGB ones.  Does order matter?  In other words, my prop that is channels 1-3 have to be listed first and then 4-6, etc?  I wanted to check before I did it pushed any changes.

Thanks for the assist!

You can organise dmx models just like pixel models.

So what I take from that is order matters?

In other words, I have to list the models in the visualizer in the order that I have them setup on my DMX controllers?
If I do that, do I have to do anything special with the channel assignment?

Order matters. In the latter versions it shows the end channel in square brackets.

I have some further questions on the visualizer when it comes to DMX.  Now that the season is winding down, I am trying to correct my list of DMX channels in the visualizer.
All of my DMX props are on Serial 3.  I have been trying to add them in order on the visualizer since an earlier post responded to me that the order mattered.j

Here is my problem:  I am on version 2020.57, I have removed all my DMX props from the visualizer and have gone on to re-add them.  The are not going into the visualizer in order and I cannot seem to change them. When I highlight the prop in visualizer it shows the correct DMX channel number.

What am I missing?  Do i add my DMX props to visualizer and it takes the dmx info from the information put into the layout tab?  If so, I can just make sure that all of them are on the correct serial port and I should be good to go.

If order matters, then how do I change the order in the visualizer?  It is simple to do for the RGB props, but it doesn't seem to work the same for the dmx items.

all help appreciated!

Happy New Year and here is to a better 2021 than 2020!

Mike.

Make sure you drop them onto the right side of the previous model to set their dmx channel correctly.

bumping this since I am revisiting.

I have spent several hours trying to get this to work without success.  I see all  my DMX props in the vislizer except the DMX 1 address.  Because of this, I have everything configured in visualizer except the dmx 1 prop.

Please help!

o.k.  So I have gotten some really good feedback and advice from the group, but I am still having a problem.  The first prop in my DMX chain is a single strand, wireframe, christmas tree.  That would be the first prop that I would hang off of Serial 3 port on my first Falcon F16v3.
Again, my show worked this season, but I am updating everything and doing a little testing while I have a few things up!
So, when I go into visualizer, I have my RGB props setup and I see how to add my DMX props to Serial 3, but I cannot find my wireframe christmas tree anywhere on the list.  I have looked at the other ports on this controller, plus I have looked at all the ports on my second controller which is also a Falcon F16v3 that runs my Mega tree.  No Prop.
Any Ideas?  I am starting to pull out what hair I have left.

If I can find that prop, then I can put all my DMX props into visualizer, then I can start doing easier management of the whole thing:)

I am looking forward to it!  I love how easy it is to manage the RGB props.

Thank for the help!

I am still having this issue where I see all of my props except for dmx 1.  I have tried deleting and re adding the prop.  doesn't change anything.
everything is working fine except I cannot get my DMX props in properly because I don't have dmx 1 to start with.
HELP!!!

Happy to Gilrock.
Can you help me understand how to do this in the most efficient way?  Would the controller screen help?  I can show visualizer, but there are too many models to see that the prop with DMX1 is missing.
Anything I can do to help get this solved, I am happy to do.

Looking for guidance.   I have not needed much help yet, so I am not very good at this.

We provide features in the program to do this.  Tools -> Package Log Files will produce a zip file with everything someone needs to reproduce your layout.
