Mega Tree configuration
« on: December 10, 2020, 08:18:33 PM »
Hello All,

I am trying to configure my tree in xlights with no luck.

I have 1200 pixels on 24 strands zig zag every 50 pixels.  I have a Sandevices 6804 and trying to "follow the norm" using 2 outputs for the tree going back to the controller.  I'm running Unicast, so I have 12 Universes, so the tree is using about 8 universes?  I am not getting the visual on the model like the view in xlights, though

Can I run 2 outputs from the controller, but setup the configuration as 12 outputs with zigzag going to each of the 2 ports?  And a question.  I have one input at the bottom left, starting with strand #1 (50 pixels, zigzag up/down 12 time and strand 2 pickup up at the bottom of strand 13 and zigzag to strand 24 or what else?  Please help...

Model looks correct to me.  Sounds like a config problem in the controller.  Since it is an E68xx is this a 510 vs 512 issue.  I have no experience with San Devices.

As far as I know, your setup in xLights looks right. The only thing I question is you keep referring to zigzag. You shouldn't need to use zigzag in your controller set up in xLights or on the controller itself. I have a similar tree set up and don't use zigzag anywhere. The tree works flawlessly. You may have better luck in getting help if you post a screenshot of your controller set up in xLights and from your 6804.

If by ZigZag you mean a strand (i.e. 90 leds) includes 45 up and then 45 back down, I had the same issue with a Falcon Controller.

I just broke each 90 led strand into two 45s AND set REVERSE on the 2nd strand.

Now when I set the effect to a falling effect, everything falls downward.

You model looks correct if that is how you have the actual tree built.  Post a screen shot of your controller setup.  Does your channels per universe match in xLights and your controller?

Thanks to ALL who helped me out!!  I really appreciate it.  Knowing from your posts that my configuration looked right, I started looking elsewhere.....  I found that my E6804 was going wacko and actually changing its configuration ie: type of pixel out of random ports, or random number of ghost pixels in the null pixel settings (up to 90!!!)  I would set it up again, start running sequences and the first one looked pretty, then the next one a little screwy, then the third or fourth was SHOT.  I checked the Sandevices E6804 aconfiguration again and there it was AGAIN screwy random settings!! It seems that the more intense the sequence was, the crazier the configuration would be.

So, I did something I SHOULD have done from the start.  Calculated my power needs at FULL power.  (to be safe)  I thought if there were no faded, dim or reddish pixels, I was good to go!  HA!  Not so Sherlock!
I ordered and installed another 60 Amp Power Supply and NO MORE issues.

I am ashamed to tell the truth about what a dumb mistake I made, but maybe this will help a newbie in the future.  I learn something new everyday.  Again THANKS for all the responses!!  You got me back on the right track in time to have a 2020 Christmas lightshow!!!  (This hobby is a BLAST)
