Help - I've changed my show directory!
« on: January 20, 2021, 06:46:31 AM »
Hi there,  I did something stupid and changed the name of one of my show root directories.  I got a bunch of errors and tried to rename it back but that didn't work.  I think everything is still working right but here is the error I'm getting... this can't be good.  Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

The key words there are "Failed to create"  Go to the location specified and see if you can manually create a folder.

Not specific to xlights, but in general it is not good to create files on your desktop.  Use the folders for documents or create a new folder under C:  I often use c:\xlights and then put my show folders in there.  Adding things to the desktop leads to "icon death" where you cannot find things as you have so much junk on your desktop and at least in the past if you ever had to reinstall windows you could lose the desktop, but not the documents and other folders.

I checked the paths... they are all correct... they exist!

I'm no sure why it's giving me this error...

it appears to just be 3 songs... i've checked each 3 and they are all functioning correctly and even have backups stored... so i'm still lost.

Is there a way to change my xlights directory from my desktop to my main C: drive without breaking the chains or messing up anything?

Looks to me like some sort of path length problem. The accumulation of folder names just made it way too long.

Copy the whole folder and paste it to a new location.  Then open xlights and change the show folder to the new folder.  Open each sequence and save it.  Make sure it is saving to the new folder.  You can also use the save as function to force it to the new location.
