Protect Effects
« on: December 24, 2014, 09:38:14 PM »
I am using Jim Nealand's method of developing sequences--autogenerating random effects, choosing the effects I like and protecting them.  Do I need to protect the "blank" cells that follow an effect to keep them from changing?  thanks in advance!!

If it is blank there is nothing to protect, but remember that a blank does not stop the previous effect.  An effect will keep going until something changes it thru multiple timing marks to the end of the sequence.

I believe you are stating that you want to maintain an effect through subsequent blank time intervals. If this is the case and you want a given effect to continue through x number of blank cells following it, you have to protect those blank cells along with the initial effect or the blanks will be overwritten with random effects.

This is precisely what I intend to accomplish--to keep the effect at cell "x" thru multiple subsequent cells.  Wasn't sure if protecting a blank cell even made any sense....  Thanks for the replies.

When we auto generate , a blank is fair territory. Btw, on your first auto generate, we fill every non- protected cell. In other words there will be no blanks. You must have edited the cell to make it blank. Cool, just protect them.

It had never occurred to me to "protect" a blank cell from Random Effects, but it does work and I will use it!!!

+1

I usually start with a limited version of a whole house model as my first display element.  I do not add any other display elements to the grid until I am happy with the first element.
