Models lock up (freeze) throughout sequence
« on: November 22, 2021, 08:30:45 PM »
Another day, another bug to work out. While playing sequences (2 different ones so far) 3/4 of my models lock up on whatever frame they were on at that moment. The only way to get them back is to physically unplug the power to them.

I have a Falcon F16v3 powered by an HP 1200W (100 amp) power supply. I did the amperage calculation and the total amperage comes out to 40 amps. (well within)

I was thinking it was power draw, but it *should* be enough power. I turned almost everything down to 10% brightness. The fun part is when they lock up, even if I stop sending data from xlights and reboot the falcon controller from the web interface (it drops ping packets so its definitely rebooting) they stay locked up. The only models that don't lock up are on an remote board via CAT5 from the serial port on the board. There is power running directly to the remote board.

Thanks in advance.

Following up on this, while the power supply was well within the 40 amp limit, I had a step down that was only capable of 3 amps. (wonder why it got so hot  :o )I've ordered some beefier step downs to hopefully combat this, but I'm not out of the woods yet. Adding this update so anyone who reviews it in the future keeps in mind everything between the power supply and the lights.

Final verdict was a step down with a higher amperage rating resolved the issue.
