New Computer models download
« on: December 08, 2021, 05:38:52 AM »
Hey everyone!  New to the forum and Xlights.

My background is electric, electrical controls with some networking, and experience with Autocad, Illustrator and Photoshop.

I took a new job this summer as the city electrician and we put up amassive xmas light display that includes 3 pixel trees.  1 large tree and two 10 ft trees.  They are running off a Falcon FPP controller.  These were purchased and programmed a few years back by a 3rd party vendor.

I installed xlights a couple days ago and built a generic model to get my feet wet and find the program pretty easy to work in,  dare I say addicting.  Lol.

Here's my problem.  I have been trying to contact the guy who sold us the display in order to get the model and sequence files for my computer,  but he won't respond back.  Is there a way to connect my laptop to the Pi and upload that information?

Also, in regards to xlights, is there a way to change the layer order?  Or is copy and paste the only way?

Thanks everyone!

The Pi won't contain any information that will be helpful in using xLights.

Trees are simple built-in models you just need to know how many pixels you have and whether the strings go Up-Down-Up-Down or Up-Up-Up-Up and how many rows/columns it has.

Got in touch with the guy that built the display originally.  He's a nice guy, just busy with life and his response to my request for the 6 models is to just build them myself.  Problem is, I'm a total noob, and the large tree is 32 runs of 120 pixels.  With a 3D star 25 ft in the air.  I have no idea how the star is wired or number of pixels.  I know that tree uses a falcon with an expansion, then connects to the 2 smaller trees and there weird shaped tree toppers via cat5.

I built the models on xlights but have not set up any of the controllers.  I've built a cool 8 minutes sequence for the trees but I cant test it out without setting up the controllers.  Is there any testing or information I can do with my computer hooked up to the controller to help me get the needed information to set up xlights?

You still need to know how the tree is wired.  Like I have a 32 strand tree and I use 16 outputs which connect into the odd numbered strands.  Each odd numbered strand is connected at the top to the next strand.  Then at the bottom of the odd numbered strands I connect a power injection cable.  So mine is what we call a zig-zag configuration going Up-Down-Up-Down.  But someone could also wire it with 32 outputs into every strand and then it would be an Up-Up-Up-Up-etc. configuration.  Or its less likely you could have cables that enter at the top.  Open up your controller and take a photo for us if you can't figure that out.
