How are you sizing your props in the Layout tab to real world dimensions?

By eye.  It doesn't have to be perfect.

Using a pic of your house as the background and then eye-ball as Randy mentioned. After setting your display up next year take a pic of your house/setup and then you can use the new pic to move/scale your props.

If you take the leap to 3d layout you can get real life measurements. In 2d it is all about perspective so props in the foreground would be drawn smaller than those in the background.

Thanks for the replies. I saw Keith's enhancement in the 2022.01 release notes and have been anxious to put the enhancement to work.

I'm still in 2D and will give Ron Howard's method a try as in the video. I am resisting going to 3D as I really don't have the resources.

My fallback idea was to put measurements on PVC pipes, put them at different points in my yard to take depth into account, then take new pictures of my yard. Not exact but close enough.

What do you mean you don't have the "resources"?  xLights is already displaying your 2D image with the same resources it takes to show it in 3D.  All we do is zero out the depth setting for 2D.  In fact I know Dan is updating everything so that there's an abstract graphics layer so that Windows can use OpenGL and Mac can use Metal and there will be absolutely no difference in resources between 2D and 3D its all a matter of drawing perspective.
