First Mega Tree
« on: March 30, 2022, 07:49:32 AM »
I am getting ready to pull the trigger and purchase what I need to build a Mega Tree

I see Ray's site has great deals on 100 pixel strings.
While I am trying to save money, why would I want Regulated over Resistor type pixels for a tree?

I am also looking at the Boscoyo Mounting Rolls and Clips along with the Big Mega Tree kit that includes the Guy Wires.

This tree will be approx 15' (100 pixel at 2 inch spacing), 32 strands, at 240 degree, and sit about 45 feet from the street. Any idea if this will look good as I hope to do moving Gifs on it?

I don't think you need regulated.  We've been using hundreds of thousands of resistor pixels for years.

Tree sounds fine except I wouldn't go past 180 degrees.  I have a 32x100 with 2" spacing.  With an 8' base you would have about 4.8" between strings at the bottom with a 180 and 6.5" with a 240.  Plus the 240 wraps around further making it harder to see all the strings from the front.  The greater the separation at the bottom the more unbalanced it is for the ratio between the pixel spacing vs string spacing which hurts showing images.

Thank you!
As for the 180 vers 240, We are planning a block party and the thought was to have a nicer experience for those that are not directly in front of the tree.

We're only talking about an extra 30 degrees per side that's not going to make a huge difference for what viewers on the side can see.  I started with a 360 tree.  Also for a 180 you can buy a 360 base like from Mattos designs and then stack each half to create a half ring that is lifted off the ground.

Thanks everyone!
I ordered a complete Mattos Sasquatch mega tree kit. Very nice people on the phone!
By the way, for anyone wanting to build one and have problems finding the center poll, Mattos now has this in 5'6" pieces that bolt together.

After watching the video below, this is what I decided on...
