Would Pebble Pixels work for outlining my railing?
« on: January 28, 2024, 07:13:06 PM »
I'm considering using some of Ray Wu's Pebble pixels on the top row of a railing on my house.  I would just zip tie them to the railing  Would this work?  Does anyone have experience with these or can anyone let me know how reliable they are?  Are they as reliable as regular bullet style pixels?  Seems like a really easy way to build an outline.  I'd use the 5cm between pixels option, so I have enough wire to repair them if needed.  also my railing is 252 inches long, so that means I'd need a string of 129 pixels (if my math is right), Do you think that would doable?  I'd prefer the 5v versions and would inject power at the end of the string.

I would think they would work fine for that purpose (and many others).

I don't have any yet so I can't personally say anything about their reliability but ACL talks about them frequently and there were people that "binned" large quantities of pebble pixels this last year. Don't recall if they were Ray or someone else. If you asked over there, you'd probably get a few responses.

The seed pixels, what Ray Wu calls pebbles, are not designed to be used outdoors for a long time. They yellow after one season.
I think they are great for space saving and versatility (if you are willing to accept the pain of soldering them).

Keep in mind, actual pebble pixels are very reliable to work outside for years without issues. The Chinese vendors are trying to make their product sound better than it is. Actual pebble pixels are these: https://www.creativedisplays.com/products/rgb-clear-pebble-with-black-wire-20-count-double-sided-12-spacing/

I used the Seed Pixels last year as Filler for Hollow plastic candy canes.  Worked just fine , No Problems.
I also agree that soldering is a chore with small Wire but nothing a magnifier or good reading glassed will not cure.
Purchased My Seeds from Wally's Lights.  https://wallyslights.com/products/12v-ws2811-200ct-seed-pixels-strand?_pos=1&_psq=seeds&_ss=e&_v=1.0
