Getting malware alert
« on: March 25, 2024, 12:21:39 PM »
Hey All,

Malwarebytes is throwing a warning when I execute xLights (xLighits.exe).  I placed the .exe file on my "Allow List" in Malwarebytes but it still throws the warning.  Malwarebytes says that xLights is trying to do an "outbound" contact to URL 67.20.112.24.  I tried to go directly to that site in my browser but Malwarebytes gives a "Trojan Warning" for that site.

I was using xLights for the past several days but the warning just appeared today.  Is anyone else having this happen?

I'm able to just 'blow through' the warning and load xLights anyhow but it is already annoying to get that popup.

I believe xLights does try to do a version check to see if you need an update maybe that's triggering this.  On Windows that should be checking https://xlights.org/downloads/

The IP checks as being associated with xlights.org

ping -a 67.20.112.24

Pinging host2084.hostmonster.com [67.20.112.24]

ping xlights.org

Pinging xlights.org [67.20.112.24]

The reverse name obviously doesn't match but it is probably a shared host so no easy way around that.

I found I never needed anti-virus or anti-malware software as long as I could keep the wife and kids off my computer...lol.
