Possible bug in LOR conversion?
« on: January 16, 2015, 05:14:35 PM »
Hi,
I have converted my LOR setup over completely to DMX.  That all worked fine, my sequences run fine in LOR.  My next step is to import them into XL and see how they look.  But I am getting a bunch of "WARNING: channel '<channel name>' is unmapped" errors when I import a LOR sequence.  I think maybe the import is looking at the wrong universe number when it is doing some check.  Here are a few examples.

My Universe 13 has 300 channels, and my Universe 14 has 210 channels.  During the import, I get the unmapped error for all my Universe 13 channels 211-300.
My Universe 15 has 432 channels, and my Universe 16 has 186 channels.  During the import, I get the unmapped error for all my Universe 15 channels 187-432
My Universe 17 has 348 channels, and my Universe 18 has 342 channels.  During the import, I get the unmapped error for all of my Universe 17 channels 343-348.
I have checked over my configuration several times, and I don't see any problems with the definition of these universes in either the LOR or XL/NC sides.

Any chance somebody could take a quick look at this?  I'd really like to try one of my imported sequences in XL/NC before I start taking everthing down in a couple of days.

I have included my xlights_networks file.  I didn't include the LMS file here, it is 21MB.  Thanks!

I just looked at your network configuration and here is what I would change.

I would set each of your universes to be the same with the last channel set to 510 or 512  I see no reason to make the last channels smaller than the maximum possible to be used. A single pixel add would require you to change the network setup.

Let us know the results when you change the channels and convert again.
You can save your work by copying your rgbeffects file to another folder and using that network config.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I changed all of the universes to 510 except for the first one with my LOR controllers.  The import is better now, but still not complete.  I am getting the unmapped error on every channel in my last universe, #23.  Attached is a text file with all the conversion messages.

I see what the issue is

2 ways to fix it.  One way is in LOR Sequence editor, go back and find the one LOR channel in LOR network0  and delete it from the sequence.

The second and easier way to fix it is to watch this video and the answer is in there.

I even saw that message about having 1 channel in the LOR Network 0.  I dismissed it, because I was SURE I had converted all my LOR channels over to DMX.  I completely forgot about the dummy channel I inserted between my arches and roofline.  Took that out and the sequence imports with no errors.  Thanks very much!

I'll try running it later tonight, I'm really hoping to see no lag on the LOR controlled lights.

Hi,

I was able to run one of my imported LOR sequences last night with all my LOR channels set as DMX.  I did not see the lag that I saw back in early Dec. when I tried to run it while set for native LOR.  However what I did see was that the LOR-controlled elements looked different.  The best word I can come up with is that they looked choppy.  It was as if they got behind for a split-second, then caught up.  And it looked like that was happening multiple times per second.  I might have to capture some video both ways to show it, it's hard to explain.

Any ideas on what might be causing this, and is there anything I can do to get it to run more smoothly?

How do you have everything hooked up? USB adapter or straight to the E131 bridge?

All 13 LOR controllers are on a single daisy-chain from a high-speed USB adapter.

In your xlights setup tab you are using open DMX have you tried changing that to Lor? I used 240 A\C channels and ran everything through my USB adapter no lag at all, might be worth shot.

Well, it was definitely worth a shot.  I changed the first line in my setup tab from OpenDMX to LOR, and the sequence ran fine, it looked identical to running it in the LOR software.

So that got me to thinking, why did I go through this whole process of converting my LOR channels over to DMX in the first place?

I took one of my original sequences with the LOR channel config, and imported that into XL.  Even though I removed the dummy channel that was causing me problems earlier, I still got the "unmapped" error for every channel in my last universe.  I was able to get around it by setting up a dummy universe 24 in my XL setup.  Once I did that, the sequence imported with no issues.  And that sequence also plays perfectly in XL.

I'm not sure what I was having trouble with in early December that was causing the lagging, but it seems to be fine now.  Can't wait to see how this all works with the new version of XL...

Thanks.  Just out of curiosity, what baud rate are you using for your LOR controllers in XL?  I tried bumping mine up from 115200 to 250000, but when I did that all my LOR controllers quit working.  I went back down to 115200 and everything is fine.
