Need Some Guidence
« on: January 23, 2015, 02:25:03 PM »
I have been using Xlights for 2 years, first year ran my pixel tree, second year ran everything, this year I am going with more pixels, bear with me. I am going to have my arches in pixels, the question I have is I am using 30 pixels  per arch, I will have 6 arches. How can I draw them in my whole house model so they will all be displayed? I want to connect the arches so in theory I would have 90 pixels ( 30 on each arch) but 90 pixels for a cluster. Hope that makes sense, my driveway arches will have 100 pixels per arch that seems easy enough to draw, then the last of the questions is my spiral trees I will need 145 pixels, with power injection is there a way to draw the spiral tree?

I treated my 24 arches (40pixels/arch, 3 arches/uSC -- 8 uSCs altogether) as a single model.
I used custom string addresses for each arch in NC...  necessary for me because I had half of the controllers on separate universes.

I assume that your spiral tree is using dumb strings, or standard LED/incans.  If RGB, then you treat is as a matrix.    If dumb or standard strings -- then create a custom model where your "paint" the grid with channel numbers where your string is located on the tree.  you don't need to paint each bulb -- just enough to represent the string.  use the same channel number repeatedly across the model -- since lighting that channel will cause the entire string to have that color.

Steve using WS2811 bullet pixels for my spiral trees, it was the arches that had me baffeled

I have 6 arches with 48 pixels in each.  I have one model for the 6 arches.  That draws them on the preview right next to each other which is how I use mine.  If I had them spread out, I would probable make multiple arches so they would look like more correct in the preview.  Whole house effects use the position of the model on the screen to paint the effect across all the pixels.  If I had multiple models I might also make an additional model that was one model that had all the arches in it so you could do coordinated effects across the arches.  This model would not have "part of the display" checked and does not show up on the preview, but because you give it the same channel assignments as the individual arches you can put effects on the single model and they will show up on the individual models both in the preview and for real.

thanks Jim going to have some warm weather to set up Xlights and do some serious sequencing, I did a whole house model but I know I will have to redo it as my setup is probably off.

Trying to decide how I want to set things up, the capabilities of the E682  with running a pile of pixels, I am building 6 arches with 30 square pixels per arch, my dilemma is this, if I set up in Xlights as 1 arch with 90 pixels  on universe 1 cluster 1 my thinking is that 3 arches will do the same effect, if I set up in Xlights as 1 arch with 30 pixels then I can manipulate each arch with its own effects, does this make sense or does it sound retarded? give me your thoughts on this thanks

If you make each arch its own model then you can have each arch doing separate and distinct effects, but you will not be able to do chases from one end of all arches to the other and you may have problems trying to get the arches to act in sync with each other.  Try it both ways, there is no penalty other than lost time.  I thing you will find that it is simpler and easier to just have one model as long as the arches are setup in proximity to each other.  Just my 2 cents.

Couldn't you just make both models?

You make the individual models, then create a group of those models. That's how I did my trees that I posted earlier today.
