How can I do a chase across arches?
« on: February 12, 2015, 09:59:28 PM »
I am trying to do a "chase" of sorts across six arches by turning all six of them off just prior to a particular time stamp row, then turning them all on with a color wash and delaying each one from left to right by using fades of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.  I thought the fade in's might turn them on from left to right, but when I look at this in preview I am not seeing any chase movement at all==all look like they are turning on at the same time.  Do I have this conceptually incorrect?  Should I set up six time stamp rows and turn each arch on in the subsequent time stamp rows?  Thanks in advance.

Technicallly they all do turn on at the same time if on the same row.  The fade in doesn't delay the start it only stretches out the time it takes to go 0% to 100%.  This task will be much easier in version 4.0.  You will be able to stagger the start times to the precise point where you want each one to start.  And when the grid editor is done I believe you will be able to arrange the arches sequential in a view and drag out a chase all in one operation but I need to wait and see how the grid is going to work for multi-color elements.

Thanks Gil.  I figured the graphical sequencer would make things like chases really easy to do.  After I posted last night I went ahead & just made five more time stamps spaced at 0.100 second intervals.  That did what I wanted.  Info appreciated!!

Make another model that contains all the arches and apply a spiral or bars to it.  Works great.  Just make sure you are using the same channels as your individual arches and turn off the mark "part of my display".

Thanks Jim.   I will try that.  Why turn off "part of my display"???   Showing my ignorance of the preview function here...   Would that "confuse" the preview trying to display the same sets of channels onto two different entities?

Should I turn the individual arch effects "off" in the time rows where I am applying bars (or something else...) to the "arches" model?

THANKS

Part of my display means to show this model in the preview window.  You already have arches shown, you do not need two sets of the same display element.  I started out with individual models of arches, but that was a PITA to sequence and gave me 4 columns of models.  Much easier to sequence using one model.  Since all of my arches are in one long row in the yard and I could do that on the preview with one model, I finally just deleted my individual models.  I want my arches to be working together anyway and not individually.  The only reason to have them as onesies in my mind is to be able to put them in different spots on the preview because I have them in different spots in my yard.

Ok.  Thanks Jim.  Still missing how to do a good chase with the multiple arch model, but I will keep working at it.  I did use the "singlestrand group all arches" a bit today but not exactly what I had in mind.

Try spirals and bars.
