What antivirus protection do you use?

Just got a new laptop (W7) to replace my struggling (W7) laptop. I have been using Kaspersky for years with good success.   I would like to see what others are using.  I am especially interested in some of the free downloads such as Panda, BitDefender, etc.   Your advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Kaspersky is a very good product if you like it and are used to it.  I am a very careful surfer and use MS Security Essentials on my desktop.  I have other protection on other computers in the house, but no particular favorites since they ALL have strengths and weaknesses.  Being in the PC support business, although mostly retired, I have tried most everything at one time or another.  There is no substitute for careful computing - do not open attachments if you are not expecting them or know what they are.  Watch what you click on when surfing.  If you hover over a link on a web page the place that link will take you to will show up along the bottom of the screen.  I cannot tell you how many computers I have had to fix for people who pay no attention to what they are opening or clicking on.  I remember one lady who I tried to educate who said "You are taking all the fun out of surfing".  I just told her to keep her checkbook open and call me when the next disaster strikes.  LOL

I've been using BitDefender for a couple years... and Norton for many years before that.
I augment my security with Malaware.

I've got a lot of computers, and virtual machines as well... and from time to time I use some free stuff including Avast, AVG, and Microsoft Security Essentials.

I think MSE was good for a couple years, but can no longer keep up with current needs.
I think BitDefender does a good job but it is filled with bloatware -- lots of app to protect various elements of your digital security.  It seems intrusive IMO but maybe that is needed in the current world with a variety of attacks.

From time to time, I am given computers from friends and family, and friends of family to disinfect.  I have found that Malaware seems to do the best job of finding and fixing issues.

I tried Kaspersky once... i thought it was good, but also intrusive.

I think I'm ready to ditch BitDefender...  but would like something fast, effective, and non-intrusive.  (Still looking...)

Still a fan of ESET Security. Not intrusive (not free, though) but very thorough.

thanks Jon.  I'll look into ESET.  I am quite happy with Kaspersky (tough one to say!!!) but considering some freeware.

I am using bitdefender on all my stuff and so far so good, as long as you have protection you should be good
