Multiple Matrix - 1 effect
« on: March 15, 2015, 02:45:47 PM »
I am looking at adding 2 horizontal matrix to my display this year.  I am trying to calculate how I would set up the models in nutcracker and then get the desired effects...

obviously I have would have an individual model for each one (Left Matrix, x number of strings folded over x number of times, starting on certain side)... same for the Right Matrix

My question comes into play in how I would do text like "Happy Holidays" but have it run across one matrix and continue across the 2nd....

My line of thinking is creating a 3rd model that combines both (setting it up custom so that has the correct address for each light etc)... this way nutcracker sees it as one large matrix and will just continue the text like there is no break....

Is this the best way to do it or is there a better option?

Also in the actual sequence I would then have all 3 models listed.... during times I want to use the model that combines do I need to tell the other 2 to turn off? give a value of none? etc...

Maybe just create the two matrices.  Then make them the only thing active in the Preview.  Drag them side by side so they look like one matrix and create a whole house model called combined matrix.  Then use the combined matrix WHM element when you want to do the text effects.  To be honest I'm not sure if it will work so its just an idea I thought would work.

BTW...a whole house model is merely a snapshot.  After you take the snapshot everything can be moved back to it's proper place.

yeah I see what you are saying but my concern isn't the look in the model of xlights....

I am just trying to make sure that:
1) Setting up the model correctly in Nutcraker

2) By having 1 model for each and then 1 big model that combines it will be the same address for each pixel listed twice so i don't want there to be any issues with the program not  knowing with model to use when.

I thought the WHM was basically a re-organization of channels into a macro device containing smaller models?  Is that not correct?  thanks

not correct, think of it as essentially a big matrix the size of your preview with only lights where you have placed them in the preview window and has nothing to do with individual models or you could call it a custom model which does the same thing on a smaller basis.
