Solved by Dan Kulp on FB group.  I had Morph checked.

This is related to my post on the Facebook group.  I downloaded 2016.9 and opened a sequence and wanted to start adding effects on new models I have for this year, as well as add more effects to existing models.

All new effects I add seem to have a fade out built into them. The fade out box says 0.0 and I opened the sequence xml file and see 0.0 for fade out next to each effect. When I added these effects yesterday I was not playing with the fade out option at all.

Specifically I am talking about the "Mini Trees" models at 1:01 - 1:15 and the "Mega Tree" at 1:15 - 1:32.  These were the new effects I added yesterday and all appear to have the fade out effect.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be touching anything else in the Layer Blending box, I haven't done so so far.

You're not doing anything wrong.  That's happened and annoyed me also but not sure the best option to fix it.  It's not just the fade values its everything that works like that.  Sparkles, brightness, colors, fades, persistence, etc.  They all stay on whatever they were left on.  I had it happen the other day I accidentally had like 50 effects with sparkles and fades that I didn't want there all because I did want it on one effect.

I totally forgot about the other effects as well.  Don't worry about if it it's too complex to fix, it's just something I need to keep in mind when sequencing.  Thanks.

This is something that gets me occasionally, maybe it's not an issue for others.  When I add a fade in or fade out to an effect, that values stays set in the Layer Blending box and will apply to all other effects added afterwards until I catch it.  I'm better at being aware of this now so it isn't a problem for me like it used to be, but is there a way to reset the values back to 0 after using so that new effects won't have the other value attached?  Currently, I put an On effect in an empty cell, reset the Fade In/Fade Out back to 0 then delete the effect.  Perhaps I'm doing this wrong to being with.

What new effects you would like to see / Re: EQ
« on: October 11, 2015, 04:33:20 PM »
Jinx! has a cleaner/smoother interface than Glediator and has better audio input support to generate the EQ/VU effects.  Some computer audio cards do not support internal loop back and thus will not be able to generate an EQ effect natively. Those folks will need to run a male to male cable from the LINE OUT to the LINE IN on their audio cards to get the sound back into the computer for effect processing.

Glediator has better preset effects.  NC now supports both .out and .gled files for use via the Glediator effect.
Do you know if there is a way to isolate the frequencies? For example. I have 3 columns and would like to use Jinx to separately record the low frequencies, then midrange then high frequencies so that I could use each effect on its own column.

Minimal Grid is not going to look at the Grid Size field.  The program isn't perfectly polished to grey out everything that isn't applicable in all cases.

Thanks for the clarification.

You are right, with minimal grid it will still let you change the grid. I can tell you that with a grid of 400 morphs don't work correctly on my layout. Minimal grid works fine, so that tells me even though you can change the value, it's ignored.

James

I don't know if I was lucky or not, but I chose Minimal Grid for a group then chose 200 for Grid Size as a test (like the photo in my post above).  After restarting, the model preview was zoomed in on just the elements in the group, so I don't know if I luckily chose the correct number or it just gets ignored when Minimal Preview is selected.

So the right choice is minimal grid.  My defaults to Grid Size 400.  Is that the right number?

Charles

It's the default now.  If you already had models/groups when Gil updated the code, it would have remained the same.  I went through and changed all of mine to minimal grid.  If yours has 400, then it's not set to minimal.

James

Just want to make sure I have this set up correctly.  I have all of my groups set up for Minimal Grid, but they all also show a Grid Size of 400.  If Grid Size doesn't apply to Minimal Grid I would have expected it to be grayed out and not editable.

As it is, I can select Minimal Grid and also choose a Grid Size (yes I saved my changes by Updating Group and clicking Save on the Layout screen and also restarted the application for good measure).  See the attached photo.

Is it really using Minimal Grid or a Grid Size of 400?

HEre's a quick screencast I made of the issue.  It's the first time I've use screencast so apologies if it's ruff.

Can't look at this right now but you can use Notepad++ to delete the names of those models in your rgbeffects.xml file.

What version are you using?  I had this issue MANY versions ago and it was fixed.

That's great, thanks Gil.

I haven't been sequencing for the last couple of weeks so I apologize changes have happened to how XL works.  I was playing in 4.2.7 today and have been having some weird behavior when copying and pasting effects.  If I'm not mistaken, when I used to paste an effect between two timing marks the effect would usually paste into that space.  In 4.2.7 when I am pasting in the space between two timing marks I am getting different behaviors each time.

One time it pasted the effect, but the length of time of the effect went beyond the end of the sequence.  The effect was about 2 seconds in a 20 second sequence.  Another time the effect was pasted in the space before the gap between the timing marks where I put the cursor to paste.  Another time it pasted the effect into the layer below the original but with a length that went beyond the ending timing mark.  A couple of times it pasted the effect on the beginning timing mark, but looked to also end on that same timing mark.

On your model setup you can start string 4 at channel 451 instead of skipping channels 451-510.

14
Just use the Save button on the effect assist window to re-save the image and it will save in a format that doesn't have a problem.

That was easy enough, thanks Gil.

Roberto, sorry if I missed this but are you putting a node in the center hole as well?  Looks too big but perhaps you could make it work somehow if you wanted.

I was going to add something on the middle, but decided to only add 12 extra bullets closer to the center.
On the middle you could have one 20mm ball, but would look different :-)
Thanks.
