Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Gifs not working .24
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:52:05 AM »
I was using the attached, Gif and xpreset in .23 and it was working fine, had it moving the way I wanted... now with .24 its not working right?

Has there been a change how Gifs are rendered?

I don't think there is "problem" as such, I am just trying new things, want an effect to do a certain thing and thought this would be a way to make it do it.

All a learning thing I guess, and I am sure if I look hard enough there will be other ways to achieve what I want. :)

I used a round circle or ball as I can have it not move and see what happens then.

If L=left, R=right, T=top and B=bottom

I assumed that adding a value curve to L, would only move the L coordinate, but it appears as though it moves the entire render buffer in the direction chosen to the power of the curve.

So if the centre of the effect is X (X being the centre of the render buffer), applying a curve to L, also moves X to power of the curve.

If you then go and apply a second curve to the opposite corner, R, so that you have a collapsing render buffer, xlights tries to apply both values to X resulting in a vibrating effect.

I thought it would shrink the buffer, but in fact it appears it just moves the entire buffer, to the power of the curve in the chose direction.  I want it to shrink the buffer!

This led me on to something and I was playing with value curves in the render buffer.

It seems like when you apply a render buffer to just one of the four points, top left bottom or right, it opposite is also effected, OR xlights moves the whole buffer and everything inside it to the value in the curve. (see attached xpreset bouncing ball), is that what it supposed to do?

Because, if you then apply a value curve to the oppsite side the effet in the buffer "wobbles" (see attached xpreset bouncing ball 2)

Is there away to move the points and have the opsite point not move?  Essintaly I would like the ball to stay still but the buffer to move, and if you change the circile to across and the top bottom value you cuves to left right you may see why.... :)

Hope I explained this right.....

So Gilrocks idea of an over sized buffer worked perfectly.

Had know idea you could over size the buffer, I only knew you could make it smaller.

Thanks for your assistance.

Here is the expreset, its only 2 layers.  I want the cross to start at the bottom off scree, then scroll up the tree and off the screen.

You can see in this, the effect ends before the cross has made the entire tip up the tree.

Gilrock I am not sure what you mean?

I was wondering if it would be possible to add start off/on screen, end off/on screen for shape effect. Particularly as it applies to the cross, I am trying to run a cross up a tree and I want it to float off the top of the tree, I have tried running it sorter and longer but it always disappears with about 1/2 of the cross still on the tree. I know I could use a gif or something similar, but thought it would be easier if xlights did it form me.

The controllers I am using don't have a dimming option so I was hoping to do it in xLights, or at least see if I need too.

However I find the process hit and miss, sometimes working sometimes not?  So I am figuring operator error.

I have been using the single brightness/Gamma sliding the brightness down too what ever value, I have even tried -100, click ok, then save.

But it does not appear to change anything.  Now this is not true for every attempt, it has worked in the past, took me ages to work out why something was not working, but I just tried then to turn down my tree, even too -100 and it didn't work.

Wondering if I am missing a step somewhere?

Thanks very much :) I appreciate your efforts,.

I would be interested to know why xLights treats the individual models differently when they are grouped together?

So I tried the suggested settings, and whist I get something kind of similar in the lights wise, I can't even get close on the beat.

I am interested in trying Keith's idea, nut have no clue at all in how to do it.... research time....

getting closers with the skips. But cant seem to work out the mask settings.....

Soooo, in an effort to try and get this to work, I have created a new sequence. As the song plays what I want appears first, then I tried Gilrocks Bars settings and dkulps string setting, but used black not white, I could not seem to get it to work with masks.

Third is interesting, that is a copy and past of the second setting but rendering on the model differently! I am so confused!

Could I please ask someone to have a look and see if they can get it to work?  PLEASE!!!!

thanks all, shows I am learning, :)

I will try the suggestions and see if I can get it to work a different way.

I am not having any issues with it playing, just the amount of time taking to save and the white screen.

I am surprised the node level sequencing creates a bigger file, but then I don't know how it all works....

Again thank you, one of the things a love about this hobby is the level of support you are offered.

Thanks Keith,

was really not sure what to do next, probably should have articulated that....

This issue I am having is with the attached file.

I think it happens on save, xlights goes into not responding mode, and the screen goes white, after 10-15 seconds it comes back, sometimes the xlights screen minimises and I have to reopen it?

The only thing I can think of is the node level sequencing I was doing in this particular file.  I could not find an effect that would do what I wanted so I just did it manually.

The effect is in icicles RA,RB, LA and LB, if anyone can come up with a way to create the effect more easily that would be great too.

File is attached.

Ok so looks like the .FSEQ file wont attach, if anyone would like to see the file I can email it, or is there a different file I can attach?

Hmmm can't even email the file...... its too big

Enhancement Requests / Re: Hide Row.

I certainly don't profess to understand the complexity's of coding, it was just a thought.  Nice to know the we have the same thoughts though.

(The new AC light control may be of benefit to me anyway and a may well be able redesign the model to achieve what I desire anyway. As I sit here thinking about it I could make it a 10 channel straight line model, that might actually work.)

On of the really great things I have found in xlights is that there is usually two or three ways of achieving what you want!
